Wire cloth

Why wire cloth?

A metal wire cloth is a perfect means of filtration.

This is achieved thanks to the properties and parameters of wire cloth. Square mesh wire cloth have simply defined and relatively similar size of meshes as well as precisely defined geometrical apertures. What is more, the porosity on the entire surface of a netting is identical.

Apart from square or rectangular mesh wire cloths, there are also Dutch weave filtration wire cloths (wires are so close to one another that there is the so called non-mesh weave). The structure of Dutch weave wire cloths allows for extremely narrow dispersion of porosity – below a notable mechanical load. This is where great accuracy of separating some solid fuels comes from. By combining various wire cloths, we can create for example filtration sets.

Advantages of wire cloths over other filtration utilities:

  • chemical resistance
  • high mechanical strength
  • high wear-resistance
  • good plasticity
  • no change of particles during filtration
  • flat surface structure
  • esaily to clean
  • multiple use (recycling – environment friendly)
  • high reproducibility, especially for the structure and accuracy of filtration and also for the range of filtration

There are as many was of application as advantages:

  • filtration
  • sieving
  • classification
  • drainage
  • separating
  • protection

Which wire cloth?

The choice of the optimal wire cloth might be decisive for your production process. That is why it should be well thought out.

The most important factors are:

  • range of application
  • accuracy of filtration
  • production process conditions (temperature, pressure, etc.)
  • chemical and mechanical requirements
  • further possible procedures

You should choose your netting on the basis of the above data. Your choice should take into account the size of meshes, weave, open area, stability and material.

We are obviously at your service when you want to make your choice. We can assist you with our experience and know-how.

Wire cloth specification

Technical data:

A wire cloth consists of two intersecting systems:

  • warp – lengthwise wires
  • weft  – widthwise wires

Various forms of meshes and weaves of wire cloths are based on these systems.

Parameters:

w – aperture: distance between two neighbouring wires; both in the direction of the warp and in the direction of the weft (see picture)

d – wire diameter: diameter of the wire which is used for the wire cloth

t – pitch: distance between the centres of neighbouring wires; the result of the following calculation:

w (aperture) + d (wire diameter)

Ao – open area: percentage participation of open apertures in the surface of the wire cloth

Ao = w2 / (w+d)2 * 100

Mesh size linearly: number of meshes per a length unit. In the wire cloth industry, we use various length units. For the sake of simplicity and clarity, we used centimetres in our tables. However, for your own convenience, please have a look at the following:

  • mesh or English inch x 2,540
  • Rhenish inch x 2,616
  • French inch x 2,7
